Galle Fort

Named a World Heritage Site in 1988.The 93-acre Galle Fort was created during the Dutch rule. The Dutch chose Galle as their administrative center. According to Dutch architecture, granite, limestone and humus clay and lime were used as mortar. The Galle Fort was completed in 1669. The lighthouse at Galle Fort is the first lighthouse in Sri Lanka.

It was built in 1848 with a height of 60 feet. It was also the first and only lighthouse to be destroyed by fire in Sri Lanka. The lighthouse, built in 1939, is now visible. This brings us to the honor of being one of the most fortified monuments in Asia compared to other forts. Galle Fort is ranked 451st in the World Heritage List.
